La Voz de Aztlan published its premier issue at the turn of the millennium on January 1, 2000. In our beginning, we never imagined the impact that our small Internet news service would have worldwide and especially in the region of the U.S. we call Aztlan. The impact we have had is primarily due to our focus on certain issues that the mainstream media either avoids, ignores or misinforms on. La Voz de Aztlan's significant impact has manifested, in large measure, by the number of influential national organizations and groups that have attempted to silence us and by the great efforts that these organizations and groups have undertaken to shut our publication down.

Information and knowledge is power and that is why certain influential groups in the U.S. seek to control the equitable flow of information and to monopolize knowledge. The nature of the Internet, however, has been like a wrench thrown into their machinery. They have tried but have been unable to control the Internet. The Internet with its immense capabilities for research as well as the ability it provides to rapidly and widely disseminate information has empowered small news services like La Voz de Aztlan and has put us in almost equal ground with larger national media.

Thoughts and ideas can be unsettling to the status quo. Ideologies can generate activities toward changes in the prevailing order and this is one of the primary reasons that La Voz de Aztlan has been so vehemently attacked. Certain modes of thought are considered dangerous by the controlling elements of society. They know that certain ideas are powerful to the point that they can act as catalytic agents capable of unsettling routines, disorganizing habits, breaking up customs, undermining faiths and generating scepticism.

La Voz de Aztlan will continue to unsettle the prevailing evil order of things. There are now very few news sites on the Internet that are considered independent and free from commercial advertisements.
