KABC Radio Attacks on the Mexican Community Must Cease The anti-Mexican xenophobes at KABC radio in Los Angeles are at it again! This time they are harassing a Los Angeles Unified School District "Charter School" that serves students of Mexican descent. The racists at the Disney radio station have an ugly history of attacking anyone of Mexican heritage, including our Mayor Antonio Villagairosa, and this time they are going after the founder and principal of an innovative K-8th grade school named "Academia Semillas del Pueblo" located in the predominate Mexican community of El Sereno in Los Angeles. The principal of the school, Marcos Aguilar, has now received death threats.
KABC, which advertises itself as "Talk Radio with Passion", has gone beyond just talking about contemporary issues. The staff has now taken things into the streets and have harassed persons of Mexican descent they do not agree with.
One notorious case involved the harassment of a popular Mexican-American Spanish language television newscaster named Jesus Javier. KRCA-TV Channel 62 had placed a number of billboards along the area's freeways advertising their Spanish language news program. The billboards, in Spanish, showed the popular newscasters Jesus Javier and Erika Flores with the slogan "Tu ciudad. Tu equipo" ("Your city. Your team"). The billboard showed Jesus and Erika sitting in front of the downtown skyline, with "Los Angeles, CA" printed above but the "CA" was crossed out, and the word "Mexico" substituted. A person or persons defaced some of the signs by showing a bullet passing through Javier's head and the word "RATA" (rat) placed with red spray paint across his chest. What occurred next involving Doug McIntyre and Al Rantel of KABC radio borders on the criminal.
McIntyre and Rantel both conspired , while talking over the airwaves, on how to get back at "these Mexicans!". Doug McIntyre drove to the office of Jesus Javier and placed a funeral wreath and some fake cheese for "la rata" in front of the office door. Today, KABC hate radio is going after Marcos Aguilar, principal of a successful school because the school, among other things, teaches the Aztec Nahuatl language and emphasises Indigenous culture. The KABC bigots hate anything that is Mexican and they have vowed to shut the school down.
Yesterday KABC radio sent a "reporter" to the school but he ended up harassing, bothering and distracting the school administrators and teachers. When the so called "reporter" arrived at the school he demanded to see the principal for an interview. Principal Marcos Aguilar was busy attending to his educational responsibilities and declined. The suspicious looking "reporter" then walked to an area in close proximity to the school yard. He started taping and it appears that a community member, possibly a parent, assumed that the "reporter" was a child molester video taping potential victims. The person tackled the "reporter" and took his tape.
These two major incidents, among others, points to a sinister anti-Mexican agenda of KABC radio. There have been numerous blatant racist commentaries directed against the Mexican community by various talk jocks at KABC. There is absolutely no ethnic or racial balance in KABC programming and they have no Mexican-American or other Latino talk hosts.
KABC radio attacks on the Mexican community must cease. It is counter-productive for their advertisers who must compete in an area where Mexicans and other Latinos predominate. Worst of all, they are helping to foment violence in Los Angeles, a city that has experienced major ethnic and racial unrest. If KABC's anti-Mexican hate mongering continues, it will be necessary for the FCC to revoke their broadcasting license.
