ARIZONA: Mesa Police chief
warns of "civil unrest" over immigration

Los Angeles, Alta California - April 11, 2008 - (ACN) Police Chief George Gascon of Mesa, Arizona has issued a strong warning of major civil unrest occurring because of the anti-immigration raids being carried out by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County and his racist posse composed of over 3,000 armed civilian volunteers. Chief Gascon has made an urgent plea to the area's clergy and legal community for help.
There have now been numerous anti-immigrant demonstrations, supported by Sheriff Arpaio, where bigots have brought guns and shotguns. It is just a matter of time when a violent racist is going to shoot an innocent pro-immigrant citizen. The county's Latino community is not going to tolerate this type of violent behavior and this is where Police Chief Gascon is correct in his concerns.
Yesterday morning there was an incident in Mesa that greatly worries Chief Gascon. During a demonstration by pro-Arpaio demonstrators at Gilbert and Broadway roads in a heavily immigrant part of the city, Chief Gascon said that , "one of the protesters got into a verbal altercation with a Black male." The argument escalated and Chief Gascon said the demonstrator called the man “homie” and “Nigger”. Another of the racist pro-Arpaio demonstrators ordered his vicious pit bull dog to lunge and snap at officers, Chief Gascon said.
“This incident, as well as others during prior sweeps, are clear indications of the volatility that can be visited upon our city as these events continue to unfold,” Gascón wrote in a memo. “Counter demonstrators have been observed carrying firearms, and tensions are escalating.”
Sheriff Arpaio has earned the reputation of being "America's Most Racist Sheriff" because he targets Latinos for traffic stops in order to demand passports, green cards or proof of US citizenship. There are now many documented cases where his deputies have arrested US citizens with brown skin coloration on mere suspicion of being illegal.
Sheriff Arpaio also has the reputation of exhibiting questionable moral behaviors. He has a known "fetish" for "pink panties" and obtains pleasure from forcing prisoners to wear them. In addition, there are photographs that show Sheriff Arpaio partying with porn star Jenna Jameson at an Arizona restaurant called the "Pink Taco". "Pink Taco" is a well known reference to a "vagina".
