Los Angeles, Alta California - March 7, 2005 - (ACN) La Voz de Aztlan has just learned that the notorious Arizona vigilante rancher Roger Barnett (aka "El Asesino"), his wife Barbara and his brother Donald have been sued in the Tucson Federal District Court by ten Mexican plaintiffs. It had been a long time that anyone had heard of the vile Barnetts. The last time was when Roger Barnett boasted to the national magazine "USA Today" that he was "prepared to kill Mexicans" if he had to. He also bragged to the national media that he "hunted down" and arrested thousands of undocumented Mexican workers that passed through his ranch (80% of the 22,000 acre ranch is leased from the Arizona taxpayers) near Douglas, Arizona.
Roger Barnett was at one time a very active member of the Arizona border vigilantes that include Glenn Spencer of American Border Patrol, Chris Simcox of the Tombstone Militia and Jim Gilchrist of the Minutemen Vigilantes. He is suspected in the killings and lynchings of a number of Mexican migrant workers that were found dead in the desert near his ranch. The website of Glenn Spencer once published a video that showed "El Asesino" and his wife Barbara Barnett in a vehicle at night "hunting" for Mexicans. They are both shown laughing and having a great time.
The ten Mexican plaintiffs, 5 women and 5 men, say that the sinister Barnetts assaulted them at gun point, battered them and threaten them with death while resting at a wash in Douglas, Arizona. Roger Barnett held the group captive at gunpoint and threaten that his dog would attack or that he would shoot anyone who tried to leave. During the assault, Roger Barnett kicked a female plaintiff as she was lying on the ground.
The vile vigilantes are today planning a series of anti-Mexican actions to take place on April 1st and through the entire month of April. The same group of bigots are working through a so call "Minuteman Project" which has, again, sent a call to white supremacists and racists across the country to come to Arizona to have some "Fun in the Sun". This same ploy was utilized in May of 2000 when the same group sent out a flyer to white supremacists in the USA to come to a conference in Sierra Vista, Arizona to discuss strategies and tactics against Mexicans. Among those in attendance were members of the Arizona 9th District of the Imperial Wizards of the Klux Klax Klan. One proposal made at the conference was to place anti-personnel military land mines along the pathways in the desert used by Mexican migrant workers. Today, the Minuteman Project is recruiting and attracting America's "riff-raff" that will converge in Tombstone, Arizona on April 1st to be later deployed along the Mexico/US border to hunt for Mexicans. Many will be armed with high power hunting rifles and scopes.
The plans of the Minutemen vigilantes have not escaped the attention of the Mexican government, US Hispanic groups and the Mara Salvatruchas. Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez has issued strong warnings to the vigilantes that they will be dealt with in US Federal Courts and has allotted some time with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss the problem when they both meet this month in Mexico City. Secretary Rice will be in Mexico to arrange an upcoming meeting between President Vicente Fox and George Bush. Also, a large coalition of Hispanic organizations met in Riverside, California recently to formulate a counter-offensive against the Minutemen vigilantes. The group led by Armando Navarro of UC Riverside, will be monitoring the Minutemen with video cameras. They also plan to demonstrate in front of the home of vigilante leader Jim Gilchrist who lives in Aliso Viejo in Orange County. Most probably, and soon, bigots like Jim Gilchrist, James Chase of Oceanside, California and Cris Simcox of Tombstone, Arizona will suffer the same fate as Roger "El Asesino" Barnett.
